CASE STUDY #4
KYC Menus
Kingston Yacht Club
Throughout my time at The UPS Store, I created a variety of menus for the KYC. These menus included the Main Menu, the Kid’s Menu, the Sunday Menu and the Bar Menu.
I used Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Canva when working on the menu projects.
I sent all proofs to the KYC manager for review, and they provided feedback and changes.
Main Menu
The main menu is where my KYC projects began. I was tasked to use the info from the left image (as well as some additional add-ons) and organize the menu items by category. Each month, I would change the background image to a new boat (which were always boats that were owned by KYC members). I made sure that there was a bleed with trim marks for cutting so the image would fill the entire menu without leaving white borders. I used Adobe Illustrator for all my editing work in this project.
Kid’s Menu
The Kid’s Menu was a fun menu to work on as it included illustrations and bubbly typography to go with an underwater theme. I used the info on the left menu and picked the underwater theme due to the yacht club being so involved with the lake. “KYC” was the original typeface from the Main Menu, but I used a bubbly font for the majority of text to capture the attention of children and to mimic bubbles under the sea. The KYC flag was placed in the crab’s hand for a creative touch of adding the club’c logo.
Bar Menu
I was asked to redesign the Bar Menu using all the drinks on the left original menu. Categorizing the type of drink into their own sections seemed to be a better design choice. The background provided a more yacht Club Aesthetic. The typography is different than the Main Menu, in order to add maturity/elegance and match the curved shape used at the top of the menu.
Sunday Menu
This is the only menu where I wasn’t given a sample to work with. I was given the items to add to the menu and instructions to make it different dimensions compared to the other menus.
I thought a very simple layout would be good for this sort of “short” menu. I used the typography used in the Main Menu and I added semi-transparent sailboats to the background to give the menu a yacht club touch.
